Interactive Design Navigation Talk (Discussion China-Pub / DearBook / CBS-Blog) BY K] [N G of A R K (TM)

Currently, there is a "home page" LINK in the navigation bar of each person's personal blog page in the CBS Blog system. Take this, I will publish my interaction design, and talk about China-Pub / Dearbook:

1) This "Home" LINK is parallel to the other navigation LINK ("Contact", "Aggregate", "Login") (Note this is a psychological implies about the classified), which is very easy to be misunderstood This "home" LINK is "home page". " The general meaning of this home link LINK should be "home page" LINK.

We can also see that in the current page navigation scheme, there is no adventive personal home page LINK, but through implicit method, hide the link to the top of the page at the top of the Personal blog of the page (for example my "方 舟 - lost in translation"). For personal blog, there is no display "Personal Home" LINK, it seems not a good idea, which does not explicitly provide the first page of the home link in the navigation system of a website (considering if the Navigation bar of dearbook is not "home "LINK, only by clicking the DearBook Logo picture to the home page, then I will not provide a good user experience). Of course, both explicit LINK also have implicit LINKs, often better and no negative effects (such as LOGO pictures also contains the first page of LINK, this dearbook / china-pub is not done).

2) This "Home" LINK appearing in the personal blog page is actually the main system home page of CBS Blog. I think:

a) "CBS Blog Home" LINK provided in your personal blog page should pop up a new window.

User wants to browse other personal blogs, do not mean that he agrees to give up the current personal blog, the current page often may have what he wants to see, he may just want to see more, not a one, Successfully browse.

We can think of our online experience: For an ordinary browser, we will watch multiple pages are very frequent, and the current CBS Blog hinders the tendency to watch multiple people blog, because Viewers must hold down "Shift" to create a new window to achieve the goal (starting a new IE window, because it is likely to re-enter the URL of the CBS Blog Re-read.)

b) When you enter your personal blog page from the CBS blog home (including the article from the home page), you should pop up a new window.

Users want to browse someone's blog does not mean that he doesn't want to watch the blog of others while watching. Once the CBS blog is disappeared, the user has lost the navigation conditions already have, and it is not possible to easily and effectively turn away from other people's blog.

We can still think about it with your own Internet experience: For a normal viewer, we will open multiple pages from a main index page for many times. The current CBS blog homepage is transferred directly to the current page to the personal blog. It is great to reduce the opportunity to browse the CBS personal blog, because once click, the home page disappears, the user has to re-open the new IE window and re-enter the CBS Blog URL To achieve purposes - this is a burden for users.

3) DearBook's occasion.

At present, DearBook, no matter which level of the page, just click "Home" LINK on the top navigation bar, you will pop up a new window (when the case is changed to the pen, the new window is changed). This is very urinary, Ideal: I open the "Learning List" from the homepage popping up, then my attention is transferred to this new window (the window is generally maximized), and I open a lot of specific in this page. The new window of learning, and then I want to see, of course, these specific learning list. In this case, if I click on the dearbook "Home" link from the "Learning List" to "Home" LINK, I often means that the specific learning list I want to open is already open. I no longer need the current "List of List" homepage. So the new window is popped up, it is not necessary to return to the dearbook home directly on the current page (of course, you can also notice that there is two dearbook home window, because you created a new window when you click on the dearbook home. This is really not easy to avoid).

The case of the book page is also the same. I opened a new window from the homepage to see a book page. After watching it, if I click on the top dearbook "Home" link, I often explain that I have already read it. I hope to go back to the home page to see other content. At this time, then pop up a new window from the book page, then this book page is likely to be a redundant window.

At present, China-Pub's approach is to click on the page link on the book page, transfer the current book page to the home page, and will not pop up a new window to display the home page. This approach reduces the redundant window, and there is another controversial effect is: because the user watching book information will disappear, so if the user will tend to put the view book to the Collection of books, it is potentially increased. The user will view the chance of this book information in the future, which is very advantageous for the website of the bookstore. I browsed in China-Pub, as long as it is not completely uncomfortable, even if I just pay a little attention, I may also put it into the Tibetan Book, because I may want to see it later.

In contrast, it is also possible to view the book page, and DearBook may have a redundant window than China-Pub. More importantly: DearBook continues to pop up a new window is chain, and a redundant window can generate more redundant windows again if it is not closed by the user. So from the general user experience, DearBook is not only a possible redundant window than China-Pub, which gives the user a certain mouse operation.

In fact, by carefully analyzing the page class system and complexity, page link number, and open mode, you can measure the situation of browsing the redundant window of the entire website and the user experience.

The overall design of China-Pub gives me the user experience better than dearbook, because I feel a feeling that I will need to turn off the redundancy window when I browse DearBook, and browse China-Pub than I browse. It feels like some.

This may not be just a "home page" LINK's open mode and location, and there is a certain relationship with the overall navigation design. At least one thing is very obvious: Dearbook homepage, almost all LINK will pop up a new window - From the principle of design balance, this may be some Bad Smell in overall navigation design; and China-Pub Home Press New Window and There is a balance between the current page transfer.

Finally, about the new window to pop up the dearbook home page, especially one mentioned:

1) The "Search" on the DearBook Home Top Navigation bar is quite appropriate.

One question we have to consider is: When is the user needs to search? At least one moment is very clear: The user did not find the book you need on the home page. Because if you find your own book on the homepage, you can click on the new window to see the new window. It is not necessary to search. Note that at this time, the first page often has no huge significance for the user, it is likely to be a redundant window, so "transfer the current home page to the search page" (China-Pub's approach) than "pop-up search page new Window "(Dear Body) seems to be better and avoids possible redundant windows.

So, according to China-Pub's approach, isn't the homepage disappear? Is this not very good? Not. Because the entire search process of China-Pub is always conducted in the current page, the user can click on the top of the navigation strip to turn the current page back to the top page back to the top of the navigation strip with the top of the top. No new window pops up, no redundant window appears). Note that the situation here is in the B) of the above "CBS Blog Home" disappears, the user lost the navigation conditions already have, and it is not possible to easily and effectively open other people's blog. "The situation is not the same, Because the situation here is that the homepage has lost navigation value (the user does not want to click on the link on the home page).

2) Do you have a new window?

Almost all related help and instructions for China-Pub (such as "distribution issues" popping up new windows, I think this is more in line with the general system design principles, because users may need the original page after viewing help, such as users at home Click on "Payment Problem" to see how to pay the book, then the user is likely to start navigation from the homepage, make a book, such as the user clicking on "Buy Process" from the book page, you may want to give a reference to help, on the book page Try to buy.

Of course, this approach has a cost of redundant windows. However, from the point of view of the user's actual "Operation Screen", the user needs "actual operation" screen, which should be as not to change in unnecessary case. After the user reads help, "can go directly to the place" This "The feeling of" just "is derived from" There is no change to change the original screen when the user views help. " Switching screen is unable to provide this feeling, because 2 switching screens (Home-> Help -> Home) or return to the original page, the user is "to do some operations" before going back. It is logically return that does not generate intuitive "original stunning" return feelings on the user experience.

DearBook's help system does not pop up a new window, saving a potential redundant window, but makes the screen switch between operation screens and help screen, and the user feels "unable to return to the original place." Users want to operate while watching help, and the way to switch screen is unable to do this.

In addition, there is no more ideas on various screensses in the above various situations, this is no longer discussed here.

In summary:

* In CBS Blog, we may prove to promote user browsing and improve user experience by appropriately adding new windows; Without a very significant impact of very significant user experience, I think it is worthy of sacrifice in the user experience to increase the user's browsing tendency.

* In DearBook, the page class system is relatively complex due to the amount of information, there is a large number of pages, so the user experience problem (especially redundant window) caused by the redundant window is very obvious, and it may be necessary to reduce redundancy. Window to improve user experience. I am not professional in interactive design (just recently starting reading related books), so my opinion will definitely have fallacy and have a great place. Welcome to comments, suggestions, criticism, and cast discovement.
