Tickets: File Transfer Protocol FTP Overview Main Specifications: Qianqian FTP Introduction Until 1994, when the WWW is in charge of the Internet, the File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is the most widely used Internet client as e-mail. It is used as a remote outer casing that accesses the Internet host file. Using FTP can be connected to an FTP server, travel between available directories, and transfer files. A FTP site can be public, private, or both. Using a private account, you can have a directory structure accessed throughout the network, or just the permissions of a specific area. Internet is also a center with a lot of FTP servers that allow anyone to connect and transfer files, whether they have an account on the host. This is called anonymous FTP. When you log in to an anonymous FTP battle, you usually use "Anonymous" as your username, "guest" or your E-mail address as a password. For example, anonymous FTP is often used to publish a large number of common domains or sharing software. One of the famous public FTP sites is ftp.cica.indiana.edu. The main design of FTP is for the procedure, but the FTP program itself has become an important part of any TCP / IP implementation. When you use Microsoft TCP / IP drivers in Windows 3.11, Windows95, or Windows NT, ftp.exe will be installed. In fact, FTP is already included in Netscape and other WWW browsers, so you can use the browsing web program to browse the FTP server. According to RFC 959, the design FTP protocol has four purposes:

1. Promote the sharing of files (computer programs or data).

2. Encourage indirectly or implied (through procedures) to use remote computers

3. Hide users more than the multi-variability of the host file system

4. In order to transfer the reliability and efficiency of the file

Why do you want to use FTP? If you are writing a program to perform a considerable number of files, and consider using FTP as your main file transfer mode, you must know some things. First, FTP is a client / server protocol. The practice of transmitting a program file to another program using FTP is not available. You can only consider using FTP if you want to transfer files to a known FTP server, or you want to write a universal FTP client. Sometimes you can use the FTP server as a repository to store files shared in your system, this is a good idea. It is completely depends on what your project goal is. If you want your user to access a series of shared files, FTP is a nice tool. FTP does not have a VB's Open, Input #, and PRINT # and other file control statements. If your project needs you to open a remote file and open it on the file level, FTP is incompetent. FTP is mainly used to get a directory list and transfer files.
